I asked you today if I was pretty
“yes” you whispered
Yet the reflection contradicted so.
The face I saw in your frame
Was not the one I know.
She looked so very different
And was wearing a lovely smile
I did not recognize her face
It has been such a long while.
The girl in the mirror lives in a different world,
she tells me that’s where she’s happy
she wants to stay.
As I get closer to the mirror
She suddenly fades away.
When I try to walk in her smile
I realize she’s just an image
That the perfect girl inside the mirror
Is nothing but a bit of me, a taste of me,
Who I am and who I’ll be.
She passes me a smile
As though to say hang in there
Everything will be alright
As long as I treasure life and strive.
I nod; I am worth the fight.
A really good poem and a lot of girls can relate to it
