License to be Free by Caroline Lovett

In dedication to all those students who are getting their driver's license. I wrote this when I was 16 and got my license for the first time.

License to be Free

On my own time, where I
want to go. Just to let
you know, I am on my
own highway, where I
make the rules, no one to tell me
when to leave, no one to tell me
where to go.

  1. I love this poem! Seeing your caption I can totally relate to how it feels driving, and I cannot wait to have my license. However I feel like this can relate to so many other aspects of my life right now. Truly a wonderful poem.

  2. This is a wonderful poem Mrs. Lovett! It makes me envious of not having a license! I have to wait until junior year to get one! But I think this poem not only alludes to receiving a driver's license, but it also just refers to high school in general because you are the one responsible for your actions. No one will tell you what to do, but your actions will determine where the high school highway takes you.
