Sonnet by Lauren Comerato

The days become shorter, and nights drag on
Sunlight fades and darkness consumes the sky,
Frost covers the rolling plains until dawn,
And at that moment warmth and heat pass by.
Winter nights are filled with small crystal specs;
The ground becomes a blanket ,soft, and white;
Within that blanket small snowflake shaped flecks,
Those flecks all fly around on their own flight.
The sky soon appears a solid color.
Light cannot penetrate, so darkness stays;
Wind picks up much faster that the others,
Tree branches are blown around looking frayed.
 Although winter may seem dim, you see;
This dark ,cold, season is special to me.
